Two of Obamacare's Godfathers are here in Michigan!

According to any number of recent polls, the majority of Americans do not support Obamacare.  And a recent Rasmussen poll finds that 57% favor outright repeal.

I just spoke to my 79 year old mother last night.  She was distraught because she had received a letter in the mail that her supplemental Medicare insurance was being dropped as of January 1 because the company could not remain in business under the new law.  Although she is in relatively good health, she is obviously concerned because, well she is 79 years old.

Last week, I got an email from my employer concerning my health care coverage.  They offer a high-deductible health care plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA).  I like this option because it lets me put aside my own money and spend it as I choose or continue to grow my savings at my discretion.  It puts the choice in MY hands.

Well, in this note I was informed that as of January 1, the rules are changing for HSAs.  Although I will still be able to use my HSA to cover out of pocket costs like over-the-counter medicines, I will now need a doctor's prescription to get reimbursement of my own money.  These over the counter medicines include things like diaper ointment and eye drops.  So, I will need to pay $75 for an office visit to get a prescription to something I don't need a prescription to buy in order to get my own money back.  This is ludicrous!

Obamacare was supposed to reduce costs.  How does this reduce costs?  If I have to go to the doctor for something I can buy on my own, I waste the doctor's time on a trivial issue. The doctor's visit has to be paid by me or my insurance.  And it essentially tells me that I am too stupid to choose how to spend my health care dollars.  This is an obvious attempt to force private health insurers to pay more against our current plans and to make HSAs as unattractive as possible.  If I hadn't believed it before, I certainly believe it now that Obamacare is absolutely designed to drive private health insurance options out of business.

And guess what Michigan?  Two of our very own Congressman are the godfathers of Obamacare.  John Dingell and Dale Kildee have both pushed for this monstrosity for many years.  With this as the crowning glory for all their other union-loving, big government votes--it is time for them to go!

Wake up Michigan.  We need to repeal Obamacare and repeal Dingell and Kildee.  We need to elect John Kupiec and Rob Steele for Congress.

  1. Jennnifer, very informative. However, there are more than just these 2 congressman you mentioned who supported this monstrosity. Gary Peters from my district comes to mind immediately, Mark Schauer, Bart Stupak, who is now endorsing his dem replacement option, and many more. As far as I'm concerned they all need to go and we can only hope that the new guys will go and repeal/replace immediately.

  2. Excellent point! I definitely hope we send everyone who voted for this monstrosity to the unemployment line--especially Schauer and Peters. I definitely support Rocky and Walberg too!
